The 2016 International Junior Camp kicked off August 10 with a rollerski race in Hamar, Norway.
From USSA Nordic coach Bryan Fish: “Zak and Nicole led the USA Team there. It was great to see Zak not hesitate and get into the front pack right off the start of the race. He was skiing with the lead pack the first third of the race. Unfortunately, Zak broke a pole tip and skied a long uphill (+1.5km) with one pole before getting another. He was left wanting more with his overall result, however this is the type of confidence, mindset and aggressive racing that will result in long term success.
“Nicole had the race of the day. She skied in the first main pack and finishing strong in 4th less than 10 seconds from 2nd. The winner was Marte Johansen, who is the classic 5km distance 2016 Junior World Champion in Romania. She broke away early, but Nicole was right in the hunt for the podium.”
