Athlete update with Annie McColgan:
What’s up NNF?!
We are in Falun, Sweden for the Nordic Nations Scando Cup trip. We have got a great crew of U18s and we are looking forward to the upcoming races.
We just had a great pre camp these first few days. One of the best parts of the trip so far has been the breakfast! The juice fountain is Ava’s favorite and the meatballs are Micheal’s. The first day we spent previewing the course and checked out a crazy downhill. There are some pretty sketch corners but we are excited for the races. Due to the lack of snow, the next day we drove up to Mora and skied on some of the Vasaloppet trails which were also quite beautiful.
We have also been learning more about each other on this trip. Some fun facts about us, Garvie Tobin has her pilot’s license, and Zander Maurer has some beef with elevator doors.
We also went on some scenic sunset jogs through the town and learned about the color Falun Red. (It’s very interesting you should look it up). We also “did LOTS of homework” at a local coffee shop and drank some delicious Swedish hot chocolate while Peter Hinds got a fresh haircut at the salon.
We also did some cultural bonding with the Estonian National team by making a tik tok, and talking about the inch to centimeter conversion. (Right Wally?)
We are also excited that our Youth Olympic Games crew just rolled in, and they are very excited to see the course for the very first time tomorrow.
We are looking forward to the races and are super grateful for our awesome wax tecs and coaches. Our last day of pre camp was my birthday. And it was… the Best. Day. Ever.
The NNF's mission is to support athletic excellence in developing nordic athletes in the United States.
Here I am at the Sochi Olympics, I would not be here if it weren’t for the years of support I have had from the NNF.
Thank you so much!
