The U18 athletes and coaches made their journey from across the United States to Norway starting on Sunday. Those traveling from Alaska had the longest haul, beginning their trip very earlier Sunday morning and enduring a ten hour time shift in the process. The full team, minus Noel Keeffe (hoping to join up soon), all formed up in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on Monday afternoon for the final connecting flight to Trondheim. Touchdown in Norway was shortly after 5 pm locally, with only one bag lost along the way (and already found and scheduled to arrive Tuesday). A three vehicle caravan shuttled the athletes through the rather snowless coastal landscape, and through many miles of tunnels, to Okdahl. The team wrapped up the long two day journey with a delicious meal of baked salmon and risotto at their hotel, Bårdshaug Herregård, then had a brief team introduction and planning meeting, before winding down with a short walk to the local grocery to explore some interesting offerings.
The NNF's mission is to support athletic excellence in developing nordic athletes in the United States.
“Thanks for all you do for us in U.S. skiing. The NNF helped me through the Development Pipeline last winter by getting me to the U23 World Championships and OPA Cup events. Because of it, this year I am prepared to win an OPA Cup race.”- Tad Elliott
