The grand opening of Mount Telemark Village in Cable, WI, on August 17th, drew a crowd of hundreds. The event, set against the backdrop of the iconic American Birkebeiner trail, was a blend of sunshine and rain, mirroring the excitement and anticipation in the air.

American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation Director Ben Popp kicked off the festivities with a brief presentation, followed by a celebratory champagne toast. Among those in attendance were Thomas Pearce, Vice Chair of the National Nordic Foundation (NNF), and Yuriy Gusev, former NNF Chairperson and Director of CXC and Team Birkie.

As guests explored the new facility, one particular visitor stood out—an enthusiastic Nordic fan donning a National Nordic Foundation fan bib. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be the bib of Luci Anderson, a promising skier from Golden Valley, Minnesota. Luci, who first got her start in skiing through the MYSL program at Theodore Wirth Park, was now proudly standing next to her aunt (Mary Anderson) showing just how far she’s come. From those early days at Armstrong High School, where she first discovered her love for racing, to her current status on Team Birkie’s Continental Team, Luci’s journey is one of determination and passion.

“I’ve gone on a lot of trips that have been supported by the NNF, so I’m very grateful for that,” Luci shared. “They’ve helped me continue my skiing career and put me in places with other skiers who are also inspired to ski faster.”   Instagram Video >

The sighting of the NNF Fan Bib was more than just a momentary highlight—it served as a powerful reminder of the National Nordic Foundation’s ongoing impact on young athletes like Luci, who are making strides in the world of Nordic skiing.
