Over the past week, U18 NNF athletes have been busy training with each other and US Ski Team coaches in Whistler, British Columbia to kick off the summer training season and start to visualize the course for next year’s FIS Junior World Ski Championships. To see what they were up to, check out our video here.

The Midwest sent a strong contingent of four athletes to NTG camp; Maggie Wagner, Molly Moening, Adrik Kraftson, and Cooper Camp. The four Twin Cities area skiers travelled together from Minneapolis out to the Canadian West Coast and back again, with a whole lot of training in between. To provide an update on the crew’s experience, Cooper Camp, the current Minnesota State High School Champion, former Minneapolis Southwest Laker and future Dartmouth College skier wrote in from the Vancouver airport with the following:

Hi everyone!

This is the Minnesota squad – Cooper, Molly, Maggie, and Adrik checking in from the airport gate. We just wrapped up our National Training Group (NTG) Camp in Whistler, British Columbia. We had a great week full of roller skiing at the 2023 World Junior Ski Championship venue. This camp was a great opportunity to gain experience and familiarity both with the trails and in the area.

One of the most valuable parts about this camp was being able to ski with the best juniors in the nation. Not only being able to get quality training in with each other, but also skiing behind others and learning from what they do, is one of the biggest benefits from camps like these.

We varied our training this week by going on some long runs in the Whistler Valley, as well as strength in the gym, super intense team games, and some athletes even got on mountain bikes.

Pictured below is our super competitive volleyball game (we’ve decided that we should stick to skiing).

On the final day of training we had a skate team relay speed workout. It was a highlight session of the week, focusing on improving maximum speed along with finishing speed. Workouts like these are very difficult, but the most beneficial towards improvement.

We really want to thank NNF supporters for making this camp and other programs like it possible. Thank you too, to our amazing coaches who organized this camp and were super flexible throughout the week!

THANK YOU!! #gonnf
