Western REG Heads out West to Montana
Bozeman, Montana has worked hard over the past decade to go from a town with a skiing community to a central ski community for the ski community. Long home to the Montana State University (MSU) ski program at the NCAA level, a set of uniquely passionate and creative skiers has continually thought of ways to bring nordic skiers from all over into the Gallatin Valley. What’s the result of putting a bunch of the kind of people who look at freshly paved backroads and think, “that’d be perfect for rollerskiing!” in the same place? Well, a really great place to rollerski it turns out, along with a perfect setting for a group of talented junior skier to gather under big skies and big mountains for a full week of training.
That’s just what happened over the past week, as REG came to Bozeman to take advantage of the sun-soaked mountains, trail-laden pine forests, and the plentiful rollerski routes and facilities at MSU. Led by a coaching staff that drew from the vast space and vast experience across the West – including the MSU team of Lizzie Larkins and Adam St. Pierre, Peter Holmes from Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, Luna Wasson from Jackson Hole Ski Club, Lydia Youkey from Mt. Bachelor Ski Education Foundation, and Bozeman’s own Andrew Morehouse (Bridger Ski Foundation) – the week yielded a whole lot of creative ways for junior skiers from California to Colorado, and the whole West in between, to push themselves and each other, while taking advantage of all that Bozeman, MSU, and Montana has to offer.
Camp coaches were able to capture it all in detail, allowing us to look back on a week that demonstrated the strength of the US ski community out West.
