Tuesday saw the U23 field at the World Junior Ski Championships take on a 20 K classic mass start around Olympic Park in Whistler.  The American men were led by Gus Schumacher, who kept with the lead pack through the entirety of the race to finish 7th place on the day. Zanden McMullen and John Steel Hagenbuch both kept up with the subsequent chase groups that formed, with McMullen coming in 18th and Hagenbuch 23rd, while Luke Jager finished 33rd. On the women’s side, Sydney Palmer-Leger put in an incredible effort in a race where the field set a furious pace from the start, and ended the day with a top ten finish in 8th.
