VIDEO: Highlights from U18 NTG Camp in Whistler
‘What’s the important thing for skiers your age to focus on?’ ‘EAT.’
That response came mid-run in unison from the boys contingent of last week’s U18 National Training Group in Whistler.
There was, it turned out, plenty of opportunity to eat, and it was needed. With a week together onsite of next year’s FIS World Junior Ski Championships, the best U18 skiers in the country used the Olympic Park cafeteria as a pit stop between the week’s full slate of running, rollerskiing, and strength workouts.
“The main reason [we’re here] is to get these athletes together to train, as well as really getting the opportunity [to ski] on the roller ski track, and also to visualize.” said US Ski and Snowboard Cross Country Sport Development Director Bryan Fish.
On her hopes for the week, US Ski Development Coach Greta Anderson said “I’d like them to have fun, to have a healthy camp where nobody gets eaten by the many bears that we’ve seen. We’d like to build some fitness as well as feel at home for when we come here in January for World Junior Championships.”
Reports from camp indicate that it as successful on the not getting eaten front as it was on the training and having fun one. To see for yourself, check out our highlight video, generously shot and edited by coach Alex Jospe throughout the week!!
